According to the statistics of IMPE-Quy Nhon, in the first half of 2010, there were 1,028 Fascioliasis morbidity cases in Central Vietnam (with the Institute's clinic 528 and the provinces of Binh Dinh, Quang Ngai, Quang Nam 500) and 2,360 cases of follow-up exammination.
Confronted with situation of more and more Fascioliasis cases increasing and serious shortage of anthelmintic drugs, the Ministry of Health (MoH) has approved the IMPE Quy Nhon's purchase of 12,000 Egaten 250 mg tablets (6,000 doses) with the price of only VND 28,895 per tablet for the treating dose of 2 tablets (VND 57,790).
In the first 6 months of 2009, Fascioliasis patients increase drastically in many provinces of Central Vietnam, causing a shortage of Triclabendzole tablets (Egaten 250 mg) provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) for treatment. In order to timely solve this problem and maintain a permanent supply of drugs as well as avoid the condition of drug shortage as present, the IMPE Quy Nhon reported of the disease situation to MoH for directions.
Central Vietnam is facing high infection of Fascioliasis, including the provinces of Binh Dinh, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Gia Lai, Quang Nam, Khanh Hoa, Da Nang... From the outbreak of Fascioliasis in 2006 to now, over 80% of all Fascioliasis cases were detected from these provinces every year, especially in the first 6 months of 2009, the number of Fascioliasis patients have tended to increase more drastically than the previous years, thus demanding early solutions.
