Deputy Minister of Health-Nguyen Thi Xuyen visiting and meeting with the Institute of Malariology, Parasitology and Entomology Quy Nhon
On June 7, 2010, Dr. Nguyen Thi Xuyen, Deputy Minister of Health and some of the leaderships of departments/bureaus directly under the Ministry of Health (MoH) such as the department of medical examination and treatment management, the department of financial plan, etc. visited and met with the Institute of Malariology, Parasitology and Entomology Quy Nhon (IMPE-Quy Nhon), the Quy Hoa National Leprosy Dermatology Hospital and some of units directly under Binh Dinh Health Service. At the IMPE-Quy Nhon, the Deputy Minister of Health-Nguyen Thi Xuyen and the mission of the Ministry met the leaderships of the Institute, visited the laboratories and the clinic of the Institute. In his report to the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Trieu Nguyen Trung - Director of IMPE-Quy Nhon presented the history and activities of the IMPE-Quy Nhon, situation of malaria, parasitic and vector-borne diseases of Central Vietnam. From 2009 to now, malaria tended to increase highly in the regional provinces and risk of the outbreaks occuring on the large scale. Besides, Fascioliasis and other helminthiasis such as Strongiloides stercoralis, Toxocara canis/ascaris, Gnathostoma stercoralis, etc. also became common and affected the people's health. | Dr. Trieu Nguyen Trung presenting the history and activities of IMPE-Quy Nhon |
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Health - Nguyen Thi Xuyen appreciated the effort in controlling malaria, other parasitic and vector-borne diseases of the IMPE-Quy Nhon in Central Vietnam. However, rates of malaria morbidity and mortality were still high, risk of the outbreaks could occur seriously; especially the development of parasitic diseases such as Fascioliasis. The Deputy Minister also directed the Institute to enhance the quality of diagnosis and treatment for the helminthiasis at the clinic and then organize training courses on diagnosing and treating the diseases for local health centres. | Deputy Minister of Health - Nguyen Thi Xuyen appreciating the effort in control of malaria, other parasitic and vector-borne diseases of the Institute |
To the Institute's the proposal, the Deputy Minister of Health will examined and solved in the range of management such as developing the clinic of IMPE-Quy Nhon into Centre for Tropical Diseases Treatment to satisfy the need of diagnosis and treatment for the people. As for the diseases are not be listed in the national medical target program such as Fascioliasis and other helminthiasis, the Deputy Minister will report to the Ministry of Health to give necessary solutions.
