Leaders of IMPE-QN paying visit and working with Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces after Storm No.10

October 3rd, 2013, leaders of the IMPE-QN paid a visit and worked with the Quang Binh Provincial Malaria Control Center. The Storm No. 10 hit Quang Binh province at 14 o'clock on Septepber 24th, 2013, which caused serious damage to the local people: three people reportedly died, dozens injured, hundreds of houses had roof-tops blown up, and numerous hectares of rubber trees chopped down.

In the Quang Binh provincial malaria control system, nearly 20,000 bed-nets were lost and torn out, eight microscopes at some health stations were damaged. Particularly, the storm No. 10 has swept away the insecticidal effectiveness of the last spraying/impregnating campaigns for malaria control. In Quang Tri province, the storm No. 10 mainly affected the districts of Gio Linh, Vinh Linh and Cam Lo, caused one death and injured 57 others; in addition, it upturned numerous house roof-tops, broke down plenty of rubber forests, yet the specific damage to the malarial control system has not been reported.

In his visit, Dr. Nguyen Van Chuong, Director of the IMPE-QN and the experts expressed sympathies for the people in two provinces, and directed further surveillance of the malaria situation in the hot-pot districts, particularly after the storm and the second peak of malaria transmission season. For vector control activities, it is necessary to consider the affected regions in order to provide supplemental insecticidal control measures; supplement enough drug for the prompt treatment to prevent malaria mortalities. In this visit, Dr. Nguyen Van Chuong and the IMPE-QN staff supported Quang Binh province dozens of anti-malarial units such as 10,000 CV-Artecan tablets, 1,000 Primaquin tablets, 2,000 Clindamycin tablets, 1 sprayer and 40,000,000 VND to assist the supplemental sprayings and impregnation. on behalf of the Quang Binh provincial Department of Health, Dr. Bon-Vice director and Dr Binh - Director of Quang Binh Provincial Centre of Malariology and Endocrinology expressed their gratitudes to the IMPE-QN and pledged to continue directing the provincial health sector to overcome the difficulties and implement the malaria control activities effectively in the local area.
