National strategic plan for avian influenza prevention in the period of 2014-2018
According to the website chinhphu.vn, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has recently approved the National Plan for avian influenza prevention in the period of 2014-2018. According to the Chinhphu.vn-Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has decided to approve the National Plan of avian flu in five coming years (the period of 2014-2018). The goals is to conduct the step-by-step control and containment of avian flu, to prevent bird flu outbreaks from spreading to a large extent, to actively establish quarantinable areas. These will be a basis to switch to the elimination period of highly pathogenic vian influenza in Vietnam from 2018 onwards. According to the workplan, the efforts should be put into control and reduction of outbreaks in high-risk areas (that are in control stage); by 2015, there will be 60% of central provinces/cities moving into low-risk areas of avian flu; by 2018, 80% of provinces/cities of the whole country will turn into low-risk areas of avian flu. Southeast provinces will be no cases of avian influenza flu by 2018. Regarding the funding for implementation, the central budget for 5 years is 132,804 million VND, which will be paid for 220 million vaccine doses to prevent the epidemics. The local budget for 5 years is 583,023.3 millions VND, of which 260,498.3 million for vaccination and 39,975 million for supporting poultry breeders who had fowls disposed of under the support policy of animal diseases prevention and control. According to the Department of Animal Health, there presently remains 46 bird flu H5N1 focus in 16 cities/provinces of the whole country, including Tay Ninh, Ca Mau, Khanh Hoa, Nghe An, Can Tho, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Hai Duong, Soc Trang, Gia Lai, Hung Yen, Ninh Thuan, Dong Nai, Ha Giang, Quang Nam, Ben Tre. Local authorities are actively deploying Month of hygiene and emergency disinfection for prevention of avian influenza in the country. The mission teams of the Veterinary Department continue to monitor and direct the work of prevention and control of avian influenza at localities.
