Vietnamese men from Liberia isolated over Ebola concerns
Thanh Nien News Medical authorities quarantined three Vietnamese men at a Ho Chi Minh City hospital after they returned from Ebola-stricken Liberia with slight fevers.
Dr. Nguyen Van Vinh Chau, director of the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases, confirmed on Thursday afternoon that the three were being treated at an isolated unit in the hospital. The overseas workers landed at Tan Son Nhat airport on Wednesday night. Body temperature detectors at the airport spotted slight fevers among the men, so a medical team immediately escorted them to the hospital. But Chau said the fevers have since subsided. They will be released and continue to be monitored at home if they do not develop further fever or other medical problems before Friday afternoon, he said. Ebola causes a hemorrhagic fever that has killed more than 1,000 people in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia since the new outbreak began in March. Four people had also died in Nigeria by August 17. The virus is spread through direct contact with bodily fluids, such as blood or urine. A person exposed to the virus can take up to 21 days to exhibit any symptoms. So far, no confirmed cases of the illness have been reported in Vietnam.
