In his speech, Dr. Nguyen Van Chuong, Director of IMPE Quy Nhon pointed out: this is the seventh year we launch the World Malaria Day with the theme "Invest in the future. Defeat malaria" and with a strong commitment to control malaria. The World Malaria Day was launched by the members of the World Health Organization in the meeting of Global Health Council in 2007. In the past few years, the IMPE Quy Nhon and the health sectors of the Central-Western Highlands-based provinces and army medical forces, border guard have devoted a great deal of efforts in the malaria control activities as well as containing epidemic, reducing malaria mortality, morbidity and preventing malaria epidemic from occurring; contributing enormously in improving the people's health and productivity in the severely-hit malaria sites. However, the Central - Western Highland in general and Gia Lai province in particular has complicated fluctuation of malaria characteristic, the risk of malaria resurgence is high especially in the remote, mountainous and border areas. Some communes of Krong-Pa district, Gia Lai province are representative of those areas; since 2011 the malaria cases have emerged. The patients are detected in every month of the year but mostly in the beginning and ending months. only in eight first months of 2013, 874 malaria cases were detected, mostly in the beginning of January and August. The increasing malaria cases in the communes of 2 districts Krong-Pa and Krong Chro are mainly in the communes/villages where there are people going into the forest, sleeping in the field-hut in long time in the highly endemic malaria sites where there is the local transmission of An. minimus. Beside that, we are still facing many difficulties in malaria control such as multi-drug resistance malaria parasite, malaria mosquitos change the ecological acitivities and appear in all over malaria endemic areas, along with the impact of global climate changes that create reasonable condition for malaria developing and increasing dramatically.
